When it comes to tattoos, I'm not opposed, just incredibly indecisive. I feel the same way about identity..

As women, shouldn't we be able to construct and reconstruct our own identities as we grow without committing ourselves forever and always to one 'self'?

Today in my Women, Gender and Popular Culture class we talked about the identities
made available to women via romantic narratives. There is this very particular and very controlled
range of female identity that allows us to be either one thing or the other and nothing in between - even if it's trying to be resistive.  Interestingly, narratives devoured by women can be understood in a way that allows women to imagine trying on different identities like they would Autumn layers -
adding and subtracting in ways that meet their immediate needs or desires.

Whether we're the Carrie, the Miranda, the Charlotte, or the Samantha is a question that suddenly holds less validity when we realize that we identify with small bits of each character in actuality.
