"I think feminists are unaware of the tremendous extent of the role of women in history."
- Vivienne Westwood

It's important to look at the details in a different light. An interesting take on the relationship between feminism and femininity and the important role that the feminine has played in the construction of society, Westwood has a point. Suddenly, we see through a lens that neither bashes the nature of femininity nor interrupts the efforts of the feminist movement. We are given a way of realizing value in an otherwise criticized femininity often condemned by feminist thought. There is great struggle in maintaining an adoration for beauty and fashion while also allowing oneself to be critical of just that and I think that this statement shakes things up a bit. We need to celebrate all that our femininity can be:
empowering, liberating, pleasurable, distinctive.

This is Joan Didion and I love her.
